“The primary purpose of the climate vulnerability maps is for the users of disaster management sectors to identify the vulnerable districts for taking preventive and adaptive measures. Thus, in vulnerability maps, vulnerability assessment was focused on the district levels,” the IMD stated.

The map was launched at an occasion to mark the 147th basis day of IMD.

As many as 640 maps can be found on-line (as a part of the IMD web site). The Atlas offers hazard occasions and vulnerability individually.

The part Climate Hazard Map’ consists of maps on mud storm, hailstorm, thunderstorm, fog, lightning, wind hazard, excessive rainfall occasions, drought, and cyclone whereas the Climate Vulnerability Map’ part has maps/info/knowledge for chilly wave, warmth wave, floods, lightning and snowfall.

For a visible show of the local weather vulnerability maps, the IMD used Geographic Information System (GIS) instruments on the workplace of Climate Research and Services, IMD, Pune.
